I-405 Sepulveda Pass Widening
Client: Los Angeles Metropolitan Transportation Authority
LOCATION: lOS ANGELES, CA
Project Value: $17m
Project Description: For this design-build project, W.A. Rasic Construction relocated utilities for the I-405 Freeway expansion along Sepulveda Boulevard and in the Caltrans right of way. Work involved relocating approximately 3,600 linear feet of eight-, 15-, and 18-inch vitrified clay pipe (VCP) sewer, implementing multiple sewer bypass systems, constructing storm drain systems (piping and cast-in-place structures), and relocating multiple sections of domestic water mains. Open-cut excavations averaged 21 feet deep, with 100% beam and plate shoring, jack and bore tunnel operations, slip lining, asphalt and concrete paving, and other site improvements. The work was conducted in extremely tight quarters with short work durations, which required multiple crews to work continuously day and night to maintain the integrity of the project schedule.
