The Century Truck Line Unit 1 Phase 3

Client: Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) & Los Angeles Dept of Water and Power (LADWP)

LOCATION: LOS ANGELES, CA

Project Value: $6M (APPROX.)

Project Description:  W.A. Rasic Construction constructed the extension of both Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the Century Truck Line in support of the Los Angeles Airport (LAX) Consolidated Rent a Car (CONRAC) facility. This domestic water project used Kubota Earthquake Resistant Ductile Iron Pipe (ERDIP) to ensure reliability during seismic events. Although ERDIP accounts for more than 90% of ductile iron pipe (DIP) installations in Japan, it is relatively new in the United States and new to LADWP. Since this was our first experience with the Kubota ERDIP system, installing the 3,150 linear feet of 48-inch Kubota ERDIP required the W. A. Rasic Construction project team to go through extensive training on pipe assembly and installation with Kubota representatives. In addition to the factory training, the project required using specialized Kubota tools to assemble the pipe. We installed the ERDIP pipe using trench shields that ranged from 12 to 18 feet in depth to shore the excavations.
