River Supply Conduit Improvement Upper Reach – Units 5 & 6
Client: Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP)
LOCATION: LOS ANGELES, CA
Project Value: $93M
Project Description: This $93 million project in North Hollywood installed approximately 15,800 linear feet of 78-inch diameter welded steel pipe and appurtenances using open trench and tunneling construction methods. About 5,400 linear feet of pipe were constructed in an open trench, primarily within Lankershim Boulevard (Victory Boulevard to Collins Street) along with a short stretch in Burbank Boulevard (Strohm Avenue and Biloxi Avenue). The remaining 10,300 linear feet were installed by tunneling within Morella Avenue, Archwood Street, and portions of Burbank and Lankershim boulevards across Oxnard Street. Our joint venture partner, SAT, used a LOVAT mixed face earth pressure balance machine with a cut diameter of 129.5 inches. The overall length of the tunnel boring machine with trailing gear was approximately 230 feet. The work also included installing nine jacking and receiving pits and structures, including sound walls and geotechnical instruments; relocating the sewer mains; implementing the traffic control plans; modifying traffic signals; monitoring sound and vibration; and restoring electrical and asphalt.
