Petroleum Pipeline Relocation – UPRR Alhambra Substation
Location: Ontario to Fontana California
Project Value: $22M (approx.)
Project Description: As part of a railroad expansion project, W. A. Rasic Construction relocated petroleum pipelines. The scope included installing 8,746 linear feet of 20-inch, 7,523 linear feet of 16-inch, and 404 linear feet of 6-inch pipe. Although most of piping was installed via open cut trench, three sections were constructed using jack and bore, and three other sections were installed via horizontal directional drill (HDD). All HDD sections were more than 1,000 linear feet with depths of 60 feet. We constructed approximately 5,795 linear feet of the 12-foot-wide reinforced concrete cap to protect a section of piping. Piping tie-ins were performed in a single shift using multiple crews to minimize pipeline downtime. Additional pipelines were abandoned using mud-jack, and pavement was restored within the roadways adjacent to the Ontario International Airport.
