Recycled Water System Development
LOCATION: city of industry, ca
Project Description: This multiyear design-build project increased the client’s ability to deliver recycled water to consumers; reducing reliance on domestic water supplies. The work required coordinating with five governing agencies and managing traffic flows to minimize impacts on the central business districts. W.A. Rasic installed 80,000 linear feet of piping that ranged in size from 6-inch ductile iron pipe (DIP) to 36-inch steel CML x C pipe, along with associated appurtenances in existing streets with one section crossing under the California 60 Highway. Piping was installed using open-cut and jack and bore methods with excavation depths of 36 feet. Some sections of piping were installed on bridges. Extensive traffic control measures, coordination with rail operations, and substantial dewatering were required. The groundwater was extracted, treated, and pumped into the newly completed sections of the recycled water pipeline. We also restored pavement and other surface features in conjunction with pipeline installation.
