Hermosa Domestic Water Distribution System Replacement – HM PH 1 & PH 2

LOCATION: LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CA

Project Value: $4M

Project Description:  W.A. Rasic Construction was hired as the design-builder to replace an 80-year-old domestic water distribution system that had reached the end of its service life. We conducted utility investigations and developed a preliminary design to upgrade and replace the water line. Part of the new alignment required a new bridge crossing over an existing Los Angeles County welded steel pipe storm drain channel. W.A. Rasic Construction subcontracted this portion of the design to CivilTec Engineering. Permitting took six months and involved multiple agencies. The scope included replacing approximately 3,900 linear feet of eight- and 12-inch ductile iron pipe (DIP), 103 consumer water services, and five fire hydrants. We made 23 connections/tie-ins to existing master mains that range in size from six to 24 inches. The replacement portion of the work was constructed within existing streets; requiring that we implement traffic control measures. We self-performed extensive asphalt pavement and concrete sidewalk restoration. The overall project duration was 13 months.
